Learning Objectives & Rationale:
Participants will:
— Characterize the elements of problem-based learning.
— Experience problem-based learning through the free Smashboard Edu game.
— Collaborate to develop an actionable solution to a problem faced by our students using the Smashboard Edu process.
— Determine ways to incorporate problem-based learning and Smashboard Edu into their content area.

Description:
Social media. Low student motivation. Poor attendance. Hunger. Bullying. SMASH IT!

Participants will learn the basic format of problem-based learning by experiencing it in a gamified format through Smashboard Edu. We will offer multiple options of problems to solve, all directly related to student learning, which models choice and authentic learning. By the end of our collaborative session, participants will also feel empowered to put their plan into action! We will showcase the learner agency that relevant, problem-based learning can inspire in our students across any content area or grade level.

Modalities/Implementation Practices:
Participants will experience the Smashboard Edu method as a learner. We will use Google Sites and Slides to house our materials and model effective use of these digital tools.
