Make It Brain-Based: A Toolkit for Successful Learning AVAILABLE

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity seats available

Learning Objectives & Rationale: Participants will:
- Identify how the brain processes new information and learns.
- Inventory and interpret multiple brain-based practices for self-care, student learning, and a positive classroom culture.
- Experience brain-based practices during the session and evaluate them for effectiveness.
- Develop self-directed and time-bound goals for implementing brain-based practices (3 total: self-care, student learning, & classroom culture).
- Continue to generate new brain-based goals and communicate with a Brain-Based Team into the future.

Description:
No matter your role, school setting, or grade level, everyone has at least two things in common:
1. We all have a brain.
2. We all work with other people that have brains too.
Simple, yet powerful! Harnessing the power and intricacies of the human brain can enhance learning, classroom culture, and self-care. Your brain will be actively engaged during this hands-on, collaborative session as you explore how the brain learns, discover specific brain-based practices, and develop self-directed goals for implementation. You will also be immersed in the learning as you experience several brain-based practices as the learner. You will leave this session with your very own Brain-Based Toolkit to assist you in future learning and implementation. Come with your thinking caps on!

Before the session, we encourage you to research brain-based learning topics that interest you. This is not required, but encouraged. (Hint: This itself is a brain-based strategy!)

Modalities/Implementation Practices:
During the session (and even before), participants will experience multiple brain-based strategies that I will point out including:
- Pre-Acquisition: The session description will ask participants to research brain-based topics of interest beforehand.
- Mind Map & Self-Assessment: The brain needs to know its goals and its destination. We will use a proficiency scale for this during this session that participants will also use to assess themselves on their goals after the session.
- Pre-Visualization: Participants will visualize future success before their initial learning and goal-setting. Then, we will again visualize success at the end of the session after participants have created their goals.
