Elementary Grade Teachers, 6th grade teachers, Coaches/Leaders

Learning Objectives & Rationale:
Participants will be able to implement the Sanford Harmony Social and Emotional Learning Program to strengthen social and emotional development in PreK-6th children, building stronger peer relationships.

Sanford Harmony was developed and researched by educators at the Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics at Arizona State University. Researchers sought to identify practical methods for reducing relational conflicts in the classroom while increasing student confidence, relationship skills and academic excellence. Incorporating best practices developed through their research, they created a program to achieve these goals by teaching understanding and empathy through classroom discussions, stories, activities and lessons.

Modalities/Implementation Practices:
This session will incorporate whole class lecture using powerpoint. Attendees will participate in interactive activities of 'Meet Up' and 'Buddy Up' that are the basic strategies used in the classroom activities of the Sanford Harmony Program. Participants will bring laptops to access the Sanford Harmony Professional Learning Library of resources while also exploring the hands-on no cost Harmony kits.
