reIgniteJoCo 2019 CvHS has ended
Reminder you will be building your own credit at the close of this event.  Each session will count 1.2 hours towards your credit.  You will collect certificates throughout the event to submit in MyLearningPlan at the conclusion of reIGNITE 2019. Digital Sessions will require the Digital Learning Artifact: bit.ly/jcpsdlcartifact.

Note: If you are attending with your PLC members you might consider signing up for the same reIGNITE Calibration session (Learn 1) so that you can have common language in the coming year.

Problem-Based Learning Units: Integrating Science into ELA AVAILABLE

Learning Objectives & Rationale: 
  • Participants will understand integrated units.
  • Participants will understand how to use literacy skills/standards to explore science concepts.
  • Participants will be excited to try problem-based learning in their own classrooms. 
  • Participants will have brainstormed ideas including questions that address one or more standards they want to cover using the model.

Description: 
Student engagement is bred out of encounters with exploring their curiosities. In this session, we will dive into a problem-based learning model that allows students to use their ELA skills to discover the answers to big questions they want to solve about the real world - including ideas about science and social studies.

Modalities/Implementation Practices: 
We will give participants a driving question (problem to solve) and allow them to work through sources to integrate information and report back - exactly what their students will do should they decide to use this model.
