Limited Capacity seats available

Learning Objectives & Rationale:
Desired outcomes for participants include the following:
Participants will better understand trauma and its presentation in children and adolescents
Participants will be able to recognize trauma symptoms in the students we serve
Participants will feel equipped to appropriately intervene to optimize clients learning and reduce frustration for teachers, students, and families
Participants will adequately view classroom needs in a trauma-informed lens
Participants will be able to identify individual goals when it comes to working with students who have experienced trauma

Description:
The session content will include defining trauma and enhance the participant's knowledge on understanding trauma, its presentation in children and adolescents, and explain strategies to utilize. This will increase student learning and engagement by supplying the participant with strategies to implement in his/her classroom that promotes a learning environment that is welcoming and nurturing while supplying a safe place to learn. This session will also identify how the brain and trauma operate together. Trauma over stimulates the “protective” part of the brain and it gets stuck in “flight, fight, freeze” mode.  The other areas of the brain don’t have the opportunity to develop, leading to learning, social, and behavioral problems. Practical tips are included in the presentation to assist with classroom management and being proactive before a  trauma-informed outburst occurs.

Modalities/Implementation Practices: Modalities include: powerpoint presentation, group, and individual activities, modeling behaviors
